Tips & frequently asked questions

A few free pointers to conserve energy, breathe easier, and get the longest life out of your system.

Quick Tips

Four habits that save you money

Set the thermostat and leave it

While you're away: around 78° in summer and 68° in winter. And avoid cranking it more than 5° at a time — it doesn't cool faster, it just runs longer and costs more.

Change thermostat batteries yearly

A dying thermostat battery causes more "broken system" calls than you'd believe. Swap them once a year — pick a date you'll remember.

Don't choke the airflow

Rugs, curtains, and furniture parked on top of vents make your system work harder. Keep every register open and clear — the air has to go somewhere.

Change your filter every 30 days

The single best thing you can do. A dirty filter can freeze up your coils, strain the equipment, and it isn't doing your family's lungs any favors either.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does HVAC stand for?

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning — the whole system that keeps your home comfortable year-round.

Does my system really need regular maintenance?

Yes. Dust, dirt, and debris are an HVAC system's worst enemies. We recommend a service visit twice a year — spring before cooling season, fall before heating season. It keeps the system efficient, catches small problems while they're still small, and extends the life of the equipment.

What should I set my thermostat to?

Comfort ranges for most homes: 75–80° in summer and 68–72° in winter. Try not to adjust more than 5° at a time — big swings make the system work overtime without getting you comfortable any faster.

What are the warning signs my system is in trouble?

Strange noises, uneven heating or cooling between rooms, longer and longer run cycles, and utility bills rising without explanation. Any one of those is worth a phone call before it becomes a breakdown.

Should I repair or replace my old system?

The honest math: if your system is 10+ years old and repair bills keep coming, replacement usually wins. Newer systems are also significantly more efficient, so part of the cost comes back on your utility bill. We'll walk you through the cost-benefit on your specific system — including when a repair is truly the smarter call. Estimates on complete system replacement are free.

How often should I change my filters?

Every 30 days. It's the cheapest insurance your system can get.
